| dc.description | A central focus of the article is the assessment of the implications of U.S.–China rivalry for Ukraine. The author identifies three key dimensions: security, economic, and civilisational. From a security perspective, Ukraine remains highly dependent on the support of the United States and its allies in countering Russian aggression, making changes in the global balance of power critically important for its national security. Economically, intensified competition between the two great powers contributes to the fragmentation of global markets, the restructuring of value chains, and the rise of technological protectionism, potentially limiting Ukraine's opportunities for integration into global economic networks. In the civilisational dimension, the rivalry between liberal-democratic and authoritarian models of governance has direct consequences for Ukraine as a state that has chosen a path of European integration and democratic development. The article concludes that contemporary rivalry between the United States and China is not a short-term phenomenon but a long-term process that is reshaping the rules of international politics, economics, and security. Ukraine, given its geopolitical position and strategic orientation, must take these dynamics into account when formulating its foreign policy, defence strategies, and economic development priorities. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The article examines the contemporary rivalry between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the United States of America (USA) as a defining phenomenon of international politics in the twenty-first century, focusing on China's strategies aimed at achieving global leadership. Particular attention is paid to the economic, military, technological, and geopolitical dimensions of this competition. The study also analyses the implications of U.S.–China rivalry for Ukraine, a state undergoing profound transformations of its security environment as a result of Russia's aggression and the intensification of global strategic competition. Based on a comprehensive analysis of strategic documents, reports by leading analytical centres, monitoring data, and scholarly publications, the author demonstrates that China is pursuing a deliberate and multidimensional strategy to expand its global influence. In the economic sphere, the "dual circulation" strategy is designed to simultaneously strengthen the domestic market and expand external economic ties, positioning the PRC as a central actor in global value chains. Of particular importance is the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which represents not only an infrastructure and transportation project but also a tool for enhancing China's geo-economic influence in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. In the technological domain, China has made significant progress in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence, fifth-generation telecommunications networks, and energy technologies, thereby creating the foundations for competition with the United States for technological leadership. The military component of China's strategy includes the modernisation of its armed forces, the expansion of its nuclear capabilities, and the strengthening of power projection in the Indo-Pacific region. The article also explores the core elements of strategic competition between the United States and China. Despite China's rapid economic growth and increasing influence in global trade and technology, the United States continues to maintain an advantage in traditional elements of military power and in its extensive system of international alliances. | |
